*This book was sent to me for review purposes from Aria Digital Publishing. All opinions are my own.
Murder on the Minneapolis by Anita Davison is a historical fiction/murder mystery. It was a very entertaining and relatively quick read. I had never heard of Anita Davison before reading this book but I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style. Let’s get into the synopsis and then I’ll tell you my thoughts. This review will be spoiler free.
The Synopsis
Flora Maguire is a young governess travelling on her way back to England from America with her young charge, Eddy in 1900. The two are very pleased with their ship, the S.S. Minneapolis, and have a pleasant first day onboard. However, things soon turn from an enjoyable trip into a very scary, and possibly dangerous, situation when Flora finds a man dead. Flora knows it wasn’t an accident because the poor man has a huge gash on his head but there’s no blood around him, as there should be if it was a fall. Flora confides in the handsome Bunny Harrington, a passenger she met onboard, that the man’s death seems suspicious. Flora knows she has to protect herself and Eddie, especially after a second murder occurs. Can Flora find the killer before it’s too late or could she end up being the next victim?
My Thoughts
As a lover of historical fiction I really enjoyed all of the details put into this book. From the way they dressed, to the ship, to just everyday life, it was all well written and thought out. This book combines mystery with history and romance, so the perfect light read. It truly is a mystery who the killer is and the story takes quite a few twists before you actually find out who it is. I’m excited to see what happens to Flora, Bunny and Eddy because their story doesn’t end with this book. If you like mystery stories or historical fiction with a little romance you need to check this book out.
There is three more books in this series that I will also be reviewing; book two is Murder at Cleeve Abbey, book three is Murder at the Grenadier and book four is Murder at St. Philomenas. The first three books in the series are out right now so go ahead and pick them up if these books sound interesting to you! As always, let me know what you think! Thank you for reading and have a great day!
