The Royal Affair palette by BH Cosmetics is not a palette I was drawn to at first. I later saw some swatches and decided to try it out for myself. I recently reviewed the Desert Oasis palette by BH Cosmetics and really loved it so I was hoping this one would be the same quality. This palette is $18.00 for twenty eyeshadows. There is twelve mattes, seven shimmers and one duochrome shade. I’ll tell you all the pros and cons and then show you the looks I made using this palette.

Pros:

• The eyeshadows in this palette are more on the cool tone side. This is pretty unique since most palettes are warm toned.
• Most of the mattes in this palette blend effortlessly.
• Most of the shimmers are absolutely beautiful and creamy. However, you will need to wet them to avoid fall out.
• The duochrome shade (Throne) has a gorgeous white/blue shift.
• In my opinion this is a very versatile palette that will be perfect for year round use.
• You can create very neutral easy looks or deep smoky looks just using this palette.
• The palette has a mirror and the packaging is sturdy cardboard with a magnetic closure.

Cons:

• The silver shimmer (High Tea) is absolutely terrible. There is no real pigment to it. It’s mainly just hard pressed glitter. It will get all over the face and if there’s not another eyeshadow under it you will be able to see through it.
• The matte burgundy, (Regal), the matte black (Enchanted) and the matte green (Monarch) do not want to blend. Regal and Enchanted were the worst. Enchanted would eventually blend but then it would just get patchy.
• The taupe shade (Palace) is one of the worst eyeshadows I’ve ever tried. It has very little pigment, it’s impossible to blend and when you try to blend it it just gets patchy.
• All of the shadows create kickup and fallout. The fallout from the deeper shades will stain the face.

I’m going to show you six looks I made using this palette. For a few of them I did use eyeshadows from other palettes but I will specify which ones those are. Since the shadows do have names I won’t be describing where they are in the palette. I do go in order of the swatches on my hand, left to right and top to bottom. You can click on the pictures to see them better.

The purple liner on my lower lash line is from my Juvia’s Place Masquerade palette. All of the other shadows are from this palette and they all worked perfectly.

1. I used Reign to set my primer.
2. I used Empress all in the crease.
3. I  blended the edges of Empress with Emperor.
4. I used Majesty on the outer V.
5. I used Honor all over the lid.
6. I used Imperial in the inner corner.

I would have enjoyed this look much more if Regal, the burgundy, would have blended. All of the other shades worked well.

1. I used Reign to set my primer.
2. I used Lady all in the crease.
3. I used Regal on the outer V and blended into Lady in the crease. Regal is also smudged on the lower lash line.
4. I used Princess all over the lid.
5. I used Aristocrat in the inner corner.
6. I lined my lower lash line with Enchanted.

The turquoise on my lids and lower lash line is from the Juvia’s Place Masquerade palette. I liked the way these shadows performed for the most part. I wish that Monarch, the dark green, would have blended better.

1. I used Reign to set my primer.
2. I used Palace all in the crease.
3. I applied Monarch on top of Palace in the crease and used Palace to try and lighten Monarch.
4. I used Throne in the inner corner.

I have no complaints with any of the shadows I used for this look and I really love the chartreuse shimmer, Crown.

1. I used Reign to set my primer.
2. I used Primrose in the crease.
3. I applied Prince on top of Primrose and blended the two in the crease.
4. I used Crown all over the lid.
5. I used Throne in the inner corner.
6. I lined my lower lash line with Majesty.

I also really loved this look and all of the shadows used were perfect.

1. I used Reign to set my primer.
2. I used Empress in my crease.
3. I used Majesty to deepen the crease and in the outer V.
4. I used Lord on the outer part of my lid.
5. I used Honor on the inner part of my lid blended into Lord and in the inner corner.
6. I lined my lower lash line with Duchess.

This look came out like pure GARBAGE. The shadows I used for this, except Reign, are the worst in the palette and ones I’ll never use again.

1. I used Reign to set my primer.
2. I used Palace in the crease and smudged on the lower lash line.
3. I used Enchanted on the outermost and innermost parts of the lid. I also lined my lower lash line with Enchanted.
4. I used High Tea in the middle of my lid and inner corner.

Overall, I do not hate this palette but it’s also not a favorite. I think the Desert Oasis performed better but I do still really like a lot of the shadows in this palette. I recommend this if you love the colors, especially if you can get it on sale. I’d love to know what you think about it! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
