A Collection of Looks to Celebrate “The Lion King” 2019 Remake

I do not own any of the character or movie images. They are owned by Disney.

If you asked me to sum up my fondest childhood memories I would simply tell you, The Lion King. I was two years old when the movie released in 1994 so I’m not sure when I first fell in love with this Disney classic, but fall in love I did. I watched the movie too many times to count. I had the figurines, the shirts, the stuffed animals, the books, the Sega Genesis game and anything else I could get my hands on. NOTHING inspired as much joy and creativity for me as The Lion King. Obviously, I still love it so very much. When the remake was first announced, I couldn’t have been more excited. I know that it won’t be quite as majestic as the original but I just love that this many years later The Lion King is still relevant and beloved. I wanted to combine my love for this movie and my love for makeup so I have created five looks inspired by different scenes and characters. I will not be including a step by step tutorial, like I usually do, because I used so many palettes and mixed together a ton of shades. I also edited these pictures a little more than usual, saturation and contrast, since this is just for fun and not a review. Let’s get into the looks!

*You can click on the pictures to see them better. Picture collage options on WordPress are the worst and frequently cut off parts of the pictures.

  • The Opening Sunrise

One of the most iconic scenes in The Lion King is the glorious sunrise that takes place while the “Circle of Life” plays. I tried my best to match the colors but I discovered that my collection is seriously lacking good oranges which made it difficult to create depth. I’m still glad I included it, however.

  • Scar

For Scar, I knew I wanted something bold that matched him. I’m honestly very proud of how this look turned out despite it not being perfect. Scar is my favorite villain and deserved something unique.

  • Simba

My look for Simba might be my favorite one. I feel that it really suits his character but it was tricky to match his colors exactly. Depending on the lighting in the movie, his color palette really shifts in tone from bright to more subtle. I decided to go with the brighter option.

  • Nala

You can’t have Simba without Nala! Fun fact about Nala, her eyes change color from teal green in The Lion King to sky blue in The Lion King II Simba’s Pride. I wanted to represent her full character so on the lower lash line there is teal green edged in sky blue. I kept it neutral on the eyelid using champagne shades to match her coat and a chestnut brown in the crease to match her nose.

  • “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?”

My last look was inspired by one of the prettiest scenes in the movie. I’ve always loved the colors in the jungle. For my look, I put the sunset shades on the eyelid and the water shades on the lower lash line.

I truly loved creating these looks. I wanted to do some for The Lion King II, as well, but I just ran out of time. I love it just as much as the first movie and it does NOT get the hype it deserves. If you guys like this kind of post and would like to see one for The Lion King II, just let me know! I’d also like to know what you think about the looks I created and if you’re planning to see the remake. Talk to me down below! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
