BareMinerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipstick- Is it Worth the Splurge?

This review is going to be short and sweet, which is a rarity on this blog. Before Christmas, bareMinerals released a few different holiday sets at Ulta. As of the day this post goes up, these sets are still available. I chose to buy the Matte on the Double Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipcolor Duo. This set is $12.00 and you get two full sized lipsticks in the shades Bo$$ and Swank. These are permanent shades and are usually $19.00 apiece so this set is a FANTASTIC deal.

Bo$$ is the top swatch and Swank is the bottom swatch.

Bo$$ is described as being a dirty pink beige and Swank is simply described as raisin. To put it simply, I adore these lipsticks. They’re almost on the same level as my beloved Dose of Colors liquid lipsticks. These lipsticks smell like chocolate and have a slim doe foot applicator for easy application. They apply opaquely in one swipe and are long lasting but so comfortable. I would say that they’re a little more comfortable than my Dose of Colors lipsticks but they don’t last quite as long and they do transfer more. I did find them to be very easy to reapply, however, which isn’t always the case with liquid lipsticks. My only slight complaint was if I was eating something oily, they would start to feel slightly gooey but they didn’t look bad and I was able to smooth out the color by just rubbing my lips together. Since they do transfer and wear off, I would consider these to be more of a liquid, long lasting cream lipstick and not a full on matte. If I really needed my lipstick to last for hours, I wouldn’t choose this formula but for any other kind of wear this formula is great.

Final Thoughts:

This isn’t my holy grail lipstick formula but I’m so glad that I tried it, especially at such an affordable price. I wouldn’t recommend these lipsticks at full price because I just never pay that much but if you can get a set or get them on sale, they’re worth it. If you’ve tried this formula before, what do you think about it? What’s your favorite formula? Thanks for reading and have a great day!

  1. Great review! My absolute favorite liquid lipsticks are the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet ones – they are very comfortable on the lips and fade gracefully. Tried theBalm Meet Matt(e) Hughes lipsticks – they are quite comfortable as well, but for some reason fade very quickly from the inner portion of the lips – bummer

      1. I’m from Europe and I hear that Bourjois liquid lipsticks aren’t that easy to get in the U.S. (Bourjois is a French brand). And as for theBalm – I can recommend them if you don’t have the issue of liquid lipsticks disappearing from the waterline. They also smell like chocolate mint frosting 😊

      2. Ahh I remember looking into the Bourjois foundation and I could never get my hands on it. I wish the brand was easier to get here😔 I’ve actually never tried anything from theBalm so I’ll remember that if I decide to!

      3. Wow, if I remember correctly, it was the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation that was talked about a lot a few years back. I actually have it and it’s not that impressive – quite sheer coverage, while it doesn’t hold that well on the skin. Maybe you haven’t missed out on a lot there ☺️As for theBalm, their quality is on point – I’ve included the Manizer highlighter trio in my all-time makeup faves https://youandmeandcupofcoffee.com/2020/01/05/makeup-favorites-what-ill-repurchase-forever/ – the packaging is so cute!

I have a few of these and love them. I like they don’t fully dry down so they’re comfortable. I’m over the matte lipstick thing. My lips just don’t like them. The Bite Beauty liquid lipsticks are great too. They don’t fully dry down either.
