Modern+Chic Review: McKell Convertible Backpack

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that Modern+Chic is a brand I talk about often. If you’re unaware, they are an online boutique that sales bags and accessories. Their prices range from very affordable to more expensive but nothing is over $100. They do have frequent sales, like Markdown Monday, and you can always find a discount code. They have allowed me to join their affiliate program and have given me a code. The code is KARA20 and if you use it, you’ll receive 20% off your purchase and I’ll receive a small amount of money from the sale. If you do choose to use my code, I really appreciate it.

A couple of months ago, I began reviewing everything I own from Modern+Chic, starting with the Alexa Oversized Clutch and the Harper 2 Wallet. Today I’m going to be talking about the first bag I actually ever bought from the brand, the McKell Convertible Backpack. The McKell is regularly $54.00 but it’s been priced at $38.00 for months; I’m not sure if that’s the new permanent price. It’s available in four different colors and I chose Camel. The outer material is vegan leather and the inner material is soft cloth. This bag doesn’t feel cheap or plastic-y like some vegan leather bags but I will say, it’s not quite as soft as some of the other bags I own from the brand. It has irremovable, but adjustable, backpack straps and a removable shoulder strap. I’m not a huge fan of the backpack straps because the adjustable piece slides around on the slippery material. They’re also not the most comfortable so I tend to carry this bag by the shoulder strap.

The main area of the bag has a zipper closure and inside there is an inner pocket with a zipper and two open inner pockets. There are also two pockets on the front of the bag with zipper closures and an open pocket on each side. This is not a huge bag but it has plenty of room for organizing. It also has very nice feeling silver hardware and the zippers all work smoothly. I am VERY picky about hardware and zipper closures so this is something I really notice with bags.

This is a great backpack to use as a purse but I don’t recommend it as a diaper bag or if you’re needing to fit a good bit of stuff in it. I tried to use it as a purse/diaper bag combo but there just wasn’t room for everything I needed. I like this bag but it’s not a favorite and I prefer some of the other backpacks that I’ve purchased from Modern+Chic since buying this one.

👜Bag Measurements:

  • Shoulder Strap: 26 inches
  • Height: 12 inches
  • Width: 11 inches
  • Depth: 6 inches

Final Thoughts:

The McKell Convertible Backpack would be a great bag for the right person. If the smaller size works for you and you don’t mind dealing with the straps, you’ll love this bag. I don’t regret buying it but it’s not one I feel I need in every color. Does it look like it would work for you? Let me know! Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Buyer BEWARE! Modern + Chic sells extremely cheap bags. I ordered mine and within 2 weeks the strap broke and now the bag is useless. I reached out to their “customer service” [if you can call it that] and they basically said too bad we won’t do anything about it – just buy another one….as if I would buy another cheap piece of crap from them.
