If you’ve been into makeup for the past few years, you’ll know that people have really mixed feelings about Tarte, especially their eyeshadow palettes. I’ve wanted to try them for quite awhile but I couldn’t justify the hefty price tag for a bland color story and unfortunately, that’s typically what Tarte creates. However, they do occasionally release products that catch my eye and when I noticed one of their older, more colorful palettes was on sale, I grabbed it.

The Tartiest Pro Remix is regularly $49.00 but it has been on sale for months. I paid around $24.00 for it but Tarte does move the price anywhere between that and $35.00. Since this is an older palette and has been on sale for so long, I’m assuming that it will be discontinued by the end of 2022.

This palette contains twenty shades: three mattes, thirteen metallics, two duochromes and two floating glitter shadows. The packaging is very solid with a nice weight to it, a clasp closure and a full mirror. The shadows are vanilla scented. With the basic info out of the way, let’s talk pros and cons!

Pros:

• In my opinion, this is the most unique palette currently available from Tarte. While not overly colorful, it’s not totally neutral and it’s primarily cool toned.
• The formula is just a dream to work with. All of the shadows blended and layered beautifully. I was able to blend metallics into my crease or do whatever I wanted to do.
• This could be a pro or a con depending on what you want but none of the metallics were too intense. I love a good foiled shadow or an intense shimmer shadow but sometimes I want something more subtle. I’ve really come to appreciate a finish that is between a satin and a metallic and that’s what I consider most of these shadows to be.
• This palette is very versatile and a great “work appropriate” colorful palette. As mentioned above, since the metallics aren’t too intense you could safely use this palette for almost any occasion. This would be a great option for neutral lovers who want to experiment with color.

Cons:

• While I prefer metallic and shimmer shadows to mattes, I do wish that this palette had more than three. You can use the metallics in the crease or on the lower lash line but there were times that I would have preferred to have a matte.
• The duochromes in this palette are unimpressive. They’re very subtle and nothing special.
• This isn’t really an all in one palette for me. You’ll see in the looks below that I frequently had to bring in other products. I just don’t feel that the color story is really cohesive and that makes it more of a supplemental palette.

Swatches & Shade Descriptions:

These eyeshadows do have names but no shade descriptions so I will describe them to the best of my ability. I’ll be going from left to right, top row to bottom row. These photos were taken with flash to show off the sparkle.

• Spin- metallic copper
• Inspiration- metallic pale pink with a white shift
• Art Deco- metallic pale turquoise
• Artist- metallic navy
• Color Explosion- metallic emerald green
• Wall Art- matte taupe
• Flow- metallic taupe silver
• DIY- metallic gunmetal brown
• Ink- matte black
• Beat Drop- black with floating silver glitter; This is basically an elevated matte with glitter shade. The glitter does stay in place well but can be blended away.
• Mixed Media- matte cream
• Splatter- metallic gunmetal silver
• Outside the Lines- metallic yellow gold
• Mic Drop- metallic red toned orange
• Graphic- black with floating pink glitter; This is basically an elevated matte with glitter shade. The glitter does stay in place well but can be blended away.
• Graffiti- metallic burgundy
• Moonlit- metallic pale gold
• Mashup- purple to red duochrome; This is a very subtle duochrome.
• Sway- metallic pale pink
• Create- red to blue duochrome

Eyeshadow Looks:

I created six looks using this palette. I almost always use an eyeshadow primer and set my primer with a cream or white colored shade, which this palette does contain.

This was the most basic look I created but I liked it. It was easy and quick to do.

1. I set my primer with Mixed Media.
2. I applied Sway all over my lid.
3. I applied Inspiration in my inner corner.

You may have seen this look before because I featured it in a Valentine’s Day post. I did apply the Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in Rooftop Cocktails on my lid on top of the shade Create from this palette. Create is the same color as Rooftop Cocktails but has way less impact.

1. I set my primer with Mixed Media.
2. I blended Graffiti into my crease.
3. I applied Create on my lid. I then topped Create with the Rooftop Cocktails Super Shock Shadow. These two shadows are basically identical but the Super Shock Shadow is more shimmery.
4. I applied Flow in my inner corner and on my brow bone.
5. I lined my water line with Beat Drop.
6. I smudged Ink on my water line.

I really loved this look but like the previous one, I did add a few things to it to make it pop. I used the Lorac Eye Gloss in Skinny Dip in the center of my lid and the Looxi Beauty single shadow in Limelight (discontinued) in my inner corner.

1. I set my primer with Mixed Media.
2. I blended Color Explosion into my crease.
3. I deepened my crease with Artist. I also applied it on the outermost part of my lid and smudged it under my lower lash line.
4. I applied Art Deco over the rest of my lid and topped it with the Lorac Eye Gloss.
5. I lined my water line with Create.
6. I smudged Beat Drop on my lower lash line.
7. I applied Inspiration on my brow bone.

This is my favorite look that I made with the palette because I love the smoky, cool toned gunmetal shades.

1. I set my primer with Mixed Media.
2. I blended Wall Art into my crease.
3. I deepened my crease with DIY and applied it on the outermost part of my lid.
4. I applied Splatter on the rest of my lid.
5. I applied Flow in my inner corner.
6. I applied Inspiration on my brow bone.
7. I lined my water line with Ink.
8. I smudged Beat Drop on my lower lash line.

This look is my second favorite, especially as we head into fall. I did use the Looxi Beauty single shadow in Social Butterfly on my lid and the L.A. Girl Shockwave Lip Liner in Chai Latte on my lower lash line.

1. I set my primer with Mixed Media.
2. I blended Mic Drop into my crease.
3. I applied Spin on my lid and topped it with the Looxi Beauty single in Social Butterfly.
4. I applied Outside the Lines in a half arch shape above my crease, closest to my nose. I wanted to add a pop of yellow to the look but in a subtle way.
5. I applied Moonlit in my inner corner and on my brow bone.

I feel pretty meh about this look. I did have to bring in some other products to give it a bit more oomph. I used the Colourpop Super Shock Shadow in The Griffith on the innermost part of my lid, the ShopMissA Highlighter in Kawaii in my inner corner and the L.A. Girl Pastel Eyeliner in Lavender on my water line.

1. I set my primer with Mixed Media.
2. I applied Mashup all over my lid and blended it up into my crease.
3. I smudged Graphic on my lower lash line.

Brushes Used:

• Crease Brush
• Detail Crease Brush
• Flat Eyeshadow Brush
• Angled Liner/Brow Brush 
• Smudge Brush
• Eye Crease Brush– I use this for inner corner & brow highlights.
• Blending Brush– I use this brush to blend out the edges and set my primer.

Final Thoughts:

I definitely think this palette is worth buying on sale but I wouldn’t pay the full price for it. It has a fantastic formula but it’s not offering anything special.
