A couple of weeks ago, e.l.f. Cosmetics had a fantastic sale. The more you bought, the bigger the discount you received. I decided to pick up a few of my staple products, like the Halo Glow Powder and Wow Brow Gel. I then decided to just browse around the site because it had been a very long time since I had looked at the new releases. For the first time ever, I didn’t see anything new that I wanted to try or was even curious about. That is what gave me the idea for this post.
I used to LOVE this brand. My blog and makeup journey started with e.l.f. Cosmetics but somewhere along the way, they lost my interest. Don’t get me wrong, I have some staple products that I use daily from them, but it’s been over a year since they released anything that got my attention. Their prices have also gone up on basically everything. For example, I needed a new pair of tweezers and they used to have good ones for $1.00… they’re $3.00 now. If brands like essence and ShopMissA can still be so affordable, so could e.l.f. I would understand if the quality had improved along with the price increase but that’s not the case for most products.
I still love this brand and I’m sure they’ll intrigue me again in the future but for now, I’m not checking for them. e.l.f. isn’t the only brand that I’m bored with, though, so let’s talk about the next one.
I once was obsessed with NYX. They had so many interesting products and I especially liked all of the unique lipstick formulas and colors that they offered. I still really enjoy a few things from them; like the Lip Lingerie Push Up Lipsticks, Bare With Me Concealer Serum and Sweet Cheeks Creamy Powder Blush. However, the price increases and lack of creative releases have really kept me from having the same level of interest in the brand. Their Lip Lingerie Push Up Lipsticks have an absolutely FANTASTIC formula. I would love to see them expand the line and release some unique shades. A black, green, purple, etc. in this formula would be perfection. I’m not sure where NYX’s creativity went but I hope they find it again soon.
Besame Cosmetics isn’t a brand I’ve tried much from but in the past, I would typically be interested in their releases. I love the brand’s aesthetic, but they are just SO expensive now. When I bought my first lipstick from them in 2017, it costed $22.00. That same lipstick is now $28.00. The formula wasn’t worth what I paid in 2017 so it’s definitely not worth what it costs now. With this brand, you’re paying for packaging and aesthetic. If that’s your thing, splurge on it but it’s not worth it for me.
Colourpop has kept their prices pretty consistent with just a minimal amount of inflation. However, they have lost my interest because of their constant releases. Nothing they create feels creative or special. I also don’t feel that the quality is on par with other brands in the same price range. The only lip products to ever go bad in my collection were from them and I’m also not crazy about their eyeshadow formula. I much prefer palettes from essence or Makeup Revolution and single shadows from Looxi Beauty. Those brands are around the same price, or cheaper, and I feel that they do it better. I’m sure I’ll buy from Colourpop in the future but I don’t have the same love for them that I once did.
Final Thoughts:
If you love any of these brands and they’re your go to, keep doing you. Obviously, this whole post is just my opinions. I would love to know how you feel about these brands or if there’s any that you’re no longer interested in! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
I echo your opinion on NYX. When they hit my local store it was crazy, always sold out etc – but now I just walk past as nothing grabs my eye or attention and seems it’s not selling as much!

I think it’s because they haven’t really changed in years. They’re due for an update.

i agree that elf hasn’t released anything worthy lately, i actually love them because they truly stepped up their game in terms of skincare. honestly even the makeup (eyeshadows in general) have come such a long way from when i first started using their makeup nearly a decade ago.
i agree about colourpop, every so often i see something i like but it has become too difficult to keep up with their releases i just don’t pay attention anymore. a lot of their stuff also goes on sale months later so i just wait for those emails xD
as for nyx, i love them as a brand, their soft matte lippies are some of my fave as well as their liquid suedes, but i mostly purchase eyebrow products and eyeliners from them. those haven’t disappointed yet lol

Oh yes, almost everything I own from Colourpop was bought half off😂 If you can be patient, you can get whatever from them super cheap.

That’s why I almost never have reviews up for new releases. I just can not pay full price for makeup when it all goes on sale.
