The Burt’s Bees Makeup Line is FULL of Hidden Gems!

Burt’s Bees is a nostalgic brand for me. Before I was really into makeup, their lip products, specifically the glosses and tinted balms, were ALL I used. I’ve been curious about their makeup line for a long time and finally decided to try a few things. I was honestly surprised by how much I really loved almost all of what I bought. Let’s talk about the BB Cream first.

The SPF 15 BB Cream is $15.00 and you get 1.7 ounces of product. It’s packaged in a squeeze tube bottle and is available in three shades; I have the shade Light/Medium. It claims to be a lightweight foundation that moisturizes, firms the skin and evens skin tone. It contains Noni Extract and is 98.9% natural.

*For reference, I have combination and acne prone skin.

This BB Cream has quickly become my favorite foundation.  It provides solid medium coverage and gives my skin a healthy glow. It truly gives a “my skin but better” look. As you can see in the pictures above, my skin is not clear right now but with just one layer of product, I get very nice coverage. I typically pair my J.Cat Beauty Staysurance Concealer with it and am able to get full coverage. I do think this BB Cream applies best without primer and when using fingers to blend it in. It did pill with all of the primers I tried it with and with a damp sponge.

This isn’t the most long lasting foundation, however. I have to set it well with powder and I still get oily in my T-zone around the six hour mark. It also wears away under my glasses but most foundations do. I don’t think this would be the best option for those with very oily skin. This BB Cream does have a scent that may be off putting. In my opinion, it’s a lemony chocolate type scent and I don’t mind it. I also can’t smell it once it’s actually on my face.

The only true con for this BB Cream is the shade range. Three shades are not enough and somebody as fair as me being able to wear the middle shade is ridiculous. If you can find a shade, though, I highly recommend this.

I bought two of the Powder Blushes in Shy Pink and Velvet Wine. Shy Pink is a light pink and Velvet Wine is a burgundy red. They are $10.00 apiece and are packaged in plastic compacts with adorable honeycomb designs pressed into them. They each give a satin, glowy finish with no glitter. They are also 100% natural and contain bamboo, honey and Vitamin E.

In the pictures above, I’m wearing Shy Pink on the left and Velvet Wine on the right. These are currently my two favorite blushes. No joke, if all of my blushes disappeared, these are the ones I’d buy again. They are SO smooth, creamy and blendable. I plan to buy the rest of the shades very soon.

I bought two tinted lip balms, the SPF 30 Lip Balm in Sienna Rose and the regular Tinted Lip Balm in Daisy. Sienna Rose is a cool berry shade and Daisy is a warm red shade. The SPF 30 Lip Balm is $5.49 and the regular Tinted Lip Balm is $4.99.

I like having a tinted balm option with SPF and I really love the Sienna Rose color but the formula is not great. It is so, so THICK. You have to drag the tube across your lips to apply it. I found that the best way to apply it is to dab your finger onto the lipstick and then smudge it on. I also have to wear it with a gloss because this formula is very dry. I don’t think this balm is awful if you want something with SPF but it’s not super comfortable. As for the regular tinted balm in Daisy, it’s great. It’s super easy to wear and apply. It’s not long lasting but it is comfortable. You can see the SPF 30 Tinted Balm in the picture above on the left and the regular Tinted Balm on the right.

I bought two of the Matte Sticks in Liquid Honey and Rush of Raspberry. Liquid Honey is a caramel brown and Rush of Raspberry is a cool toned plum pink. They are $6.99.

This is currently my favorite matte formula. In true Burt’s Bees fashion, neither shade is very pigmented but both leave a wash of color on the lips. They give a blotted look, which I really enjoy. They are comfortable but you can tell they’re matte. I prefer to wear a gloss with them; as I am in the picture above on the right, wearing Rush of Raspberry. However, a gloss does shorten the wear time of these lipsticks. Without a gloss, I found that they faded very naturally throughout the day. I want to pick up more shades in this line and I recommend them.

I bought three of the Lip Glosses with Avocado Oil: Iced Glaze, Flushed Blush and Punch of Pink. Iced Glaze is a milky clear shade with a shift of pink, Flushed Blush is a sheer beige brown and Punch of Pink is a cool pink. They are $5.99.

I absolutely love these glosses. I actually reviewed Punch of Pink years ago and I wanted to repurchase it. These aren’t very pigmented so I tend to wear them over lipsticks. In the picture on the left, I’m wearing Iced Glaze over the Matte Stick in Rush of Raspberry. In the middle picture, I’m wearing Flushed Blush over the Matte Stick in Liquid Honey (my favorite combo.) In the picture on the right, I’m wearing just Punch of Pink. If you’re wanting a sheer, super comfortable gloss, pick up one of these.

Perhaps the most disappointing product I bought was the Gloss & Glow Glossy Balm in Wine Wednesday, a sheer wine red. At $6.99, it’s more expensive than the regular Tinted Lip Balms but it’s less pigmented and less hydrating. It’s fine, but not a formula I’m interested in buying more of.

Final Thoughts:

There are still many more products in this line that I want to try. I love that Burt’s Bees is an affordable brand but is still providing natural products that actually work well. If there’s anything you want to see me review from the brand or just something you think I need to try, let me know. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
