Possibly the Worst Book I’ve Read All Year- Review for “A Dowry of Blood” by S.T. Gibson

A Dowry of Blood by S.T. Gibson was so bad that I am seriously baffled by all the good reviews. Typically, even if a book isn’t for me, I can see why other people would enjoy it but this one is just so bland and so boring. This review will be spoiler free.

Synopsis:

This is my last love letter to you, though some would call it a confession. . .

Saved from the brink of death by a mysterious stranger, Constanta is transformed from a medieval peasant into a bride fit for an undying king. But when Dracula draws a cunning aristocrat and a starving artist into his web of passion and deceit, Constanta realizes that her beloved is capable of terrible things.

Finding comfort in the arms of her rival consorts, she begins to unravel their husband’s dark secrets. With the lives of everyone she loves on the line, Constanta will have to choose between her own freedom and her love for her husband. But bonds forged by blood can only be broken by death.

My Thoughts:

  • Rating– ⭐

First, let’s talk about what I wanted and expected from A Dowry of Blood. I love the original Dracula by Bram Stoker and so a story about his wives really interested me. I wanted to get their backstory, find out how they came to be with Dracula and see the events with the Harkers from their point of view. I got almost none of that.

In this retelling, Dracula has two wives and a husband. I would go into detail about each of them but there is no need. They’re all painfully boring. We’re given only the bare bones information about each of them. I wanted to know about their families, their pasts, who they were but unfortunately, we’re given nothing. They meet Dracula, he turns them and that’s it.

They meander from place to place throughout history but again, we’re given nothing. I thought there would be some cool historical events sprinkled in but no. They move to a place, Dracula makes them stay at home, they fight and then they move again. To sum this novel up,R

Final Thoughts:

In conclusion, this is a boring book filled with boring vampires who do nothing interesting. Do yourself a favor and read the original Dracula. If you’ve read this, please let me know what you think. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
