The Best Palette of 2023?? Makeup Revolution Twisted Fantasy Review

I did not expect one of my favorite palettes of the year to be a Makeup Revolution Halloween release but here we are. The Twisted Fantasy Eyeshadow Palette is super affordable at just $12.00 and has a beautiful color story that makes me think of a Gothic garden.

This palette has very cool, but cheap feeling, packaging. The picture on the front shifts from a moon with bats to moths. I love special packaging like this for the holidays. As for the palette itself, it’s lightweight plastic with a clasp closure and a mirror. There are fifteen shades: eight mattes, six metallics and one shimmery topper. With the basic info out of the way, let’s talk pros and cons!

😄Pros:

  • I love the packaging, color story and theme of this palette. I think it stands out from other Halloween releases. I also think it would be a beautiful color story for year round use.
  • The mattes have an excellent formula. They’re not overly pigmented and it’s super easy to blend them out and build them up. I used the black for a smoky look and had no issues working with it.
  • The metallics are STUNNING. They are so high shine and wet looking. The silver shade literally looks like liquid metal and is the most impressive silver I own.

😣Cons:

  • While the metallics are gorgeous, they’re so messy. They must be applied with a finger or a wet brush but even doing that, I still had some fallout. I’m willing to work with them because I love the way they look but if you hate fallout, you’ll hate these shadows.
  • The two light cream shades, Two and Four, are basically identical.
  • The light lavender shade, Thirteen, doesn’t have much pigment. It’s good for blending but I could live without it.
  • The cream metallic magenta, Eight, is so patchy. It’s the only shadow in the palette that feels like a cream and it can only be picked up with a finger. I would rather have had this color in the regular metallic formula.

Swatches & Shade Descriptions:

These eyeshadows do not have names or shade descriptions so I will describe them to the best of my ability. I’ll be going from left to right, top row to bottom row. These photos were taken with flash to show off the sparkle.

Eyeshadow Looks:

I created three looks using this palette. I don’t always wear an eye primer but I do set my base with a cream colored shadow. I really love all three of these looks, especially the second one.

  1. I set my base with Four.
  2. I blended Two into my inner crease.
  3. I blended Fourteen into my crease.
  4. I deepened my crease with Eleven. I also applied it on the outermost part of my lid and on my lower lash line.
  5. I applied Nine on my lid.
  6. I applied Seven on the innermost part of my lid and in my inner corner.
  7. I applied Five in my inner corner.
  8. I applied Fifteen on my water line.

*I used the Looxi Beauty highlighter in Voodoo on my brow bone.

  1. I set my base with Four.
  2. I blended Thirteen above my entire crease.
  3. I blended Ten into my crease.
  4. I deepened my crease with Fifteen. I also applied it on my water line and lower lash line.
  5. I applied One on the inner and outermost parts of my lid.
  6. I applied Three in the middle of my lid.
  7. I applied Five in my inner corner and on my brow bone.
  1. I set my base with Four.
  2. I applied Six all over my lid and blended it up into my crease. I also smudged it on my lower lash line.
  3. I blended Thirteen into the inner part of my crease.
  4. I applied Eight on my lid.
  5. I applied Twelve on my lid on top of Eight.
  6. I applied Fifteen on my water line.
  7. I applied Five on my brow bone.

*I used the Looxi Beauty single in Cookies n Creme in my inner corner.

Brushes Used:

If you are curious about any of the other products on my face, you can find these looks in my recent posts on Instagram.

Final Thoughts:

I absolutely love this palette. I had just as much fun using it as I did the Give Me Glow Haunted Pumpkin Palette that I reviewed last week. The Haunted Pumpkin is $45.00 while the Twisted Fantasy is $12.00… So yeah, if you’re looking to get into the Halloween spirit but not spend a fortune, choose this one. I would love to know what you think about this palette and the looks I made with it! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
