The Funnest Christmas Releases! Reviews for the Makeup Revolution Family Ogre Set & Gingy Lip Kit🎄

45

The Shrek movies are some of my favorites! I missed out on the original Makeup Revolution x Shrek collection so when I saw that they had released holiday sets, I grabbed them. The Family Ogre Set is $22.00 and the Gingy Lip Kit is $14.00. They are currently on sale, though, and probably will be for the rest of the year. Let’s talk about the Family Ogre Set first!

The Family Ogre Set contains a headband, lip gloss and an eyeshadow palette. The headband is really nice quality. It’s very soft and holds the hair back well. The lip gloss is described as being a pale baby pink with a sugar cookie scent. I personally think it has more of a sweet powder smell but it isn’t bad. I like the formula because it is tacky so it lasts quite awhile on the lips but some may find it to be too sticky. I don’t love the color, however. It’s a bit too pale for me but it does look pretty on top of other lip colors. In the picture below, I’m wearing it on top of the Colourpop Lux Lipstick in Belle.

The Baby Ogre Eyeshadow Palette contains sixteen shades: six mattes, one matte with glitter and nine shimmers. It has cardboard packaging with a firm magnetic closure and a mirror. This palette is much smaller than it appears online. The pans are about the size of a dime. I don’t particularly love when the pans are this small but it’s not a deal breaker.

😄Pros:

  • I love the packaging  and theme of this palette. It’s a little tacky but it’s fun.
  • The mattes all perform very well. They’re not overly pigmented and are easy to blend.
  • Almost all of the shimmers are good but Farkle, White Christmas, Fiona and Swamp are the really special ones. They’re so sparkly.

😣Cons:

  • The shade Be Merry is more of a satin metallic than a shimmer. It’s a pretty color but wasn’t as impactful as I wanted it to be.
  • The shade Santa is absolute garbage. It has almost no base pigment and is just a dusting of silver sparkle with a sheer red base.

Swatches & Shade Descriptions:

These eyeshadows do have names but no shade descriptions so I will describe them to the best of my ability. I’ll be going from left to right, top row to bottom row. These photos were taken with flash to show off the sparkle.

Eyeshadow Looks:

I created three looks using this palette. I don’t typically wear an eye primer but I do always set my base. I like all three of these looks but the last one is my favorite.

  1. I set my base with Duloc.
  2. I blended Love into the inner part of my crease.
  3. I blended Fergus into the middle of my crease.
  4. I deepened my crease with Donkey. I also smudged it on my lower lash line.
  5. I applied Be Merry on my lid and topped it with Santa.
  6. I applied White Christmas and Fiona in my inner corner.
  7. I applied Shrek on my water line.
  8. I applied Swamp under Donkey on my lower lash line.
  1. I set my base with Duloc.
  2. I blended Felicia into the inner part of my crease. I also applied it on my water line.
  3. I blended Swamp Gang into the outer part of my crease.
  4. I deepened my crease with Fergus. I also smudged it on my lower lash line.
  5. I mixed Donkey in with Fergus on my lower lash line.
  6. I applied Bah Humbug on the outer part of my lid.
  7. I applied both Jingle and Gingy on the innermost part of my lid.
  8. I applied Fiona in my inner corner.
  1. I set my base with Duloc.
  2. I blended Love into the inner part of my crease.
  3. I blended Shrek into the outer part of my crease.
  4. I applied Swamp on my lid.

Brushes Used:

If you are curious about any of the other products on my face, you can find these looks in my recent posts on Instagram.

The Gingy Lip Kit contains a matte liquid lipstick, a lip gloss and a lip liner. They are supposed to be gingerbread scented but they have a very fake, spicy type scent. I really don’t enjoy the smell but luckily it fades quickly and they don’t have a taste. Other than the scent, I love this lip kit. The matte lipstick isn’t totally transfer proof but it’s very comfortable. The lip liner is creamy and long lasting. The gloss is also really good but it does sink into my lip lines. I don’t like wearing it on its own but it’s great on top of the liquid lipstick. It is a more tacky gloss, just like the one in the Family Ogre Set, so it does last on the lips but some may find it to be too sticky. If you’re looking for a peach toned lip kit, I really like this one.

Final Thoughts:

I don’t think these holiday releases will be for everyone but for Shrek fans, they’re really fun. The quality is also great. I wouldn’t say the eyeshadow palette is the best I’ve ever tried but for the price, theme and color story, I’m happy with it. If Shrek isn’t you’re thing, I also bought almost the entire Makeup Revolution Festive Allure collection and reviews will be up for that soon. Let me know what you think about the Shrek holiday goodness! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
