What’s Up Beauty is an indie brand that caught my attention when they released their Dragon Eye Eyeshadow Palette. While I liked the palette, I didn’t like it enough to pay the $45.00 for it. However, they recently had it 40% off through their Tiktok shop so I decided to get it. I’m really glad I waited for a sale because I am not impressed…

The Dragon Eye Eyeshadow Palette contains twelve shades: seven duo/multichrome foils and five mattes. It has cardboard packaging with a firm magnetic closure and a mirror. The artwork on the outside is gorgeous. The scales on the dragon seem to shift and it really makes this palette feel special. While I don’t love everything about this palette, I do really enjoy the packaging. Now, let’s talk pros and cons!
Pros:
- The metallic foil shades are SO sparkly and eye catching. They are truly some of the prettiest shimmers in my collection. Fly, Magic and Scales are my personal favorites.
- Most of the mattes are easy to blend and work with.
- This color story is perfect for spring.
Cons:
- This is not a dragon color story, this is a fairy color story. This is obviously just a personal opinion but I do not think the color story matches the theme and palette artwork.
- It is impossible to deepen a look unless you want it to be purple toned but even the deepest shades, Powerful and Smoke, aren’t that deep.
- I wish the peachy matte, Breath, would have been a green or a neutral brown. That particular shade feels out of place.
- The light brown matte, Creature, is very lackluster. Again, I would have preferred a green, neutral brown or a deeper matte.
- The purple matte, Powerful, is super patchy and hard to blend.
- ALL of the mattes got hard pan after being swatched and used just three times.
- The shimmers are basically toppers. None of them are completely opaque and they work best when layered on top of each other or other mattes.
- All of the shimmers claim to be multi or duochromes but Scales is the only shade that seems to truly be one.
- The shimmers looked patchy on my eyes by the end of the day and that NEVER happens to me. I do not have oily lids and wasn’t sweating. The picture below will show what I mean.

Swatches & Shade Descriptions:
These eyeshadows do have names and shade descriptions on the website so I will copy them. I’ll be going from left to right, top row to bottom row. These photos were taken with flash to show off the sparkle.

- Breath– matte light peach
- Fire– gold to green multichrome foil with pink base
- Spikes– matte mauve
- Magic– teal to purple multichrome foil with purple base
- Powerful– matte dusty purple
- Creature– matte light brown with pink undertone
- Fierce– gold foil with green base

- Myth– pink to gold to green multichrome foil
- Smoke– matte dark brown with purple undertone

Eyeshadow Looks:
I created three looks using this palette and I like them all but the second is my favorite. I don’t always wear an eye primer but I do set my base with a cream colored shadow.
- I blended Breath into my crease.
- I deepened my crease with Creature.
- I applied Fire and Myth on my lid.
- I applied Fly in my inner corner.
- I blended Spikes into my inner crease.
- I blended Powerful throughout the rest of my crease and smudged it on my lower lash line.
- I deepened my crease with Smoke and smudged it on my lower lash line.
- I applied Scales on my outer lid.
- I applied Monster on my inner lid.
- I applied Fierce and Fly in my inner corner.
- I mixed Spikes and Creature and blended them throughout my crease.
- I applied Magic on my lid.
- I applied Fly mixed with my highlighter in my inner corner.
Brushes Used:
- Crease Brush
- Detail Crease Brush
- Flat Eyeshadow Brush
- Angled Liner/Brow Brush
- Smudge Brush
- Eye Crease Brush– I use this for inner corner & brow highlights.
- Blending Brush– I use this brush to blend out the edges and set my primer.
If you are curious about any of the other products on my face, you can find these looks in my recent posts on Instagram.
Final Thoughts:
So, is this palette worth buying? Yes BUT only at a discount of 40% or more. I’m not mad that I bought it on sale; I would have been mad if I paid full price. I will never touch the mattes again but I will use the shimmers as toppers with other mattes. Unfortunately, I can’t say that this is a brand I want to try more from but I’d love to know how you feel about them. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
This palette is so pretty ! It reminds me of the fantasy Stonewind sculptures. One of my friends has a peacock dragon set and looks exactly like the Dragon on the cover of this palette. Very pretty looks too!

I see what you you mean about the colour story not giving dragon, but when you mentioned the colours you would switch out and what you’d switch to it occurred to me that the title “Dragon Eye” might be a hint for who it’s designed for. Me and other women with green/olive eyes. These colours, ESPECIALLY, those you would have switched out are a PERFECT set for my eye colour and skin undertones. I’m the one with dragon eyes with gold flecks and seeming to shift between green and brown depending on the light.
