Sydney Grace Southern Spring Eyeshadow Palette Review

4

Sydney Grace recently released four new nine pan palettes and I picked up two of them, Southern Spring and Western Summer. This brand typically releases their palettes with a light and deep option; I have the light. Of the four, these two had the color stories that spoke to me the most, especially Southern Spring and that’s what I’ll be reviewing today!

Southern Spring is $36.00 and has nine shades: five mattes and four metallics. It has cardboard packaging with a firm magnetic closure and a mirror. As always with Sydney Grace, the art on the front of the packaging is beautiful. The eyeshadow pans are magnetic so you could easily depot them and put them into another palette. With the basic info out of the way, let’s talk pros and cons!

❤Pros:

  • The matte formula is excellent. They are so easy to blend and build. I’ve been dealing with some dryness on my eyelids and I still had no issues working with the mattes.
  • All of the metallics are just gorgeous. Sweet Magnolia and Kentucky Derby are especially special.
  • I adore this color story! I also own the Mountain Trail Eyeshadow Palette from the brand (review here) and I was concerned that the greens would be the same in both and while they’re similar, they’re different enough. I think both palettes would compliment each other well. If you do own both: Wildlife from Mountain Trail is slightly deeper than Southern Hospitality from Southern Spring, Backwoods from Mountain Trail and Chasing Fireflies from Southern Spring are the same depth but Backwoods has a yellow undertone, To Earth from Mountain Trail is a forest green and Kentucky Derby from Southern Spring is an olive green with gold reflects.

💔Cons:

  • The shade Kentucky Derby created quite a bit of fallout.
  • I would have preferred for Cherry Blossoms to be lighter and less warm toned.

Swatches & Shade Descriptions:

These eyeshadows do have names but no shade descriptions so I will describe them to the best of my ability. I’ll be going from left to right, top row to bottom row. These photos were taken with flash to show off the sparkle.

Eyeshadow Looks:

I created two looks using this palette and I love them both. I don’t always wear an eye primer but I do set my base with a cream colored shadow.

  1. I blended All Y’all into my crease.
  2. I deepened my crease with Sweet Tea.
  3. I applied Sweet Magnolia on my lid.
  4. I applied Cherry Blossom and The Masters in my inner corner.
  5. I applied Southern Hospitality on my waterline.
  6. I smudged Kentucky Derby on my lower lash line.
  1. I blended Walled Garden into my inner crease.
  2. I blended both Chasing Fireflies and Southern Hospitality into my crease.
  3. I applied Kentucky Derby over the majority of my lid and smudged it on my lower lash line.
  4. I applied The Masters on the inner part of my lid.
  5. I applied Cherry Blossoms into my inner corner.

✨If you are curious about any of the other products on my face, you can find these looks in my recent posts on Instagram.

Final Thoughts:

Sydney Grace has one of the most reliable formulas. I expected to love this palette and I do. I’m excited to try out Western Summer and will have a review up for it next week! Do you have any favorites from the brand? Thanks for reading!
