Is This the Best Spooky Season Release? Profusion Cosmetics Gothic Beauty Collection Review🕷🌚

5

It’s been a couple of years since I purchased anything from Profusion Cosmetics but when I saw their new Gothic Beauty collection, I had to pick up a few things. This collection is SO beautiful and SO affordable! I didn’t buy everything but I did get the Moonlight Magic Eyeshadow Palette, Spooky Glow Holographic Highlighter and Setting Elixir Matte Spray. I have a lot to say so let’s get into it!

3

The Moonlight Magic Eyeshadow Palette is $13.00 and contains 35 shades. There are twenty four mattes, one cream shimmer and ten shimmers/metallics. Within the shimmers, there are some that are more metallic and one that’s more of a topper but I’ll explain that in the shade description section. This palette has cardboard packaging with a mirror and a magnetic closure. Let’s now get into the pros and cons!

❤Pros:

  • I love the color story and theme for this palette. I think it’s so versatile and you could create endless looks.
  • The mattes were perfection. I haven’t always loved Profusion’s matte formula but these blend and build up so easily. I also had no issues with fall out.
  • All of the shimmers and metallics are beautiful. I did have issues with a few of them but each one looked gorgeous and for the most part, I experienced very little fallout.
  • I don’t typically like cream shadows but the one in this palette, Outcast, was very easy to work with and so pretty. It’s perfect for layering other shades on top of.

💔Cons:

  • The green shimmer, Wicked, is more of a topper and is very hard pressed. It can be a little difficult to pick up and mine is already starting to get hard pan. It is beautiful and I don’t mind that it’s a topper but I wish it was a bit easier to pick up.
  • The silver shimmer, Pendulum, and the bronze gold shimmer, Transcendent, have a flaky type formula that you have to press on to the lids. They’re very high shine and beautiful but since they are more flaky, they create a good bit of fallout. I did find the fallout easy to brush away, however.
  • Bizarre and Ominous are very similar shades of lavender.
  • I think this palette could have had a few less brown shades. They all have different undertones but I would have preferred a matte blackened purple, green or blue.

Swatches & Shade Descriptions:

These eyeshadows do have names but no shade descriptions on the website so I will describe them to the best of my ability. I’ll be going from left to right, top row to bottom row. These photos were taken with flash to show off the sparkle.

I created five looks using this palette and if I would have had more time, I could have easily did more. There are so many possible color combos in this palette. I don’t typically wear an eye primer but I do set my base. I also used the Spooky Glow Holographic Highlighter in a few of the looks.

✨If you are curious about any of the other products on my face, you can find these looks in my recent posts on Instagram.

The Spooky Glow Holographic Highlighter is $7.00. It’s packaged in a cheap feeling plastic component but the spider pressed into it makes up for the packaging. It has a white/translucent base and is packed with pink, red and blue shimmer. This highlighter is fragile and the first one I ordered arrived shattered but Profusion replaced it.

I really like this highlighter but more so on my eyes than on my face. This is  a VERY glittery and chunky formula. It gives the skin a beautiful glow but I had to work to blend it in and since it is so glittery, it draws a lot of attention to texture. I prefer a more smooth highlighter formula but on the eyes, in the inner corner or on the brow bone, it’s stunning. It would also be fantastic to layer over other eyeshadows. It does leave a bit of a white cast so I’m not sure if those with deeper skin tones would enjoy it on the face. I love it as a companion to the Moonlight Magic Eyeshadow Palette but not so much as an actual face highlighter.

The Setting Elixir Matte Spray is $7.00 and you get 5.07 ounces of product; this is much more than you get in most setting sprays. I’m not going to lie, I bought this purely for the packaging. I love how it looks like a potion bottle and when I use all of it, I will be refilling it with other sprays. As for the actual formula, it’s good but nothing amazing. I do think it helped mattify my skin but I wouldn’t say it greatly extended the wear of my makeup. For the price, amount of product and packaging, though, I say it’s worth trying.

Final Thoughts:

We’ve all noticed the insane prices of makeup, especially for palettes, and I’m just amazed that Profusion was able to release such a beautiful collection at an affordable price. The Moonlight Magic Eyeshadow Palette could have easily been $25.00 or more and the fact that it’s only $13.00 is incredible. I am definitely interested in buying more from the brand so let me know what you would like to see reviewed. If you’re wanting to get any of the spooky season releases, I can’t recommend this one enough. Thanks for reading!
