Joah is a brand that I have heard of but never tried, until now. When they released their Crystal Glow Primedation Foundation, I was interested because they were literally giving it away for free. After I used a discount code, I only had to pay $2.00 in shipping. This foundation is regularly $16.00. While not expensive, that’s more than I would want to spend on a new release from a brand I hadn’t tried. Unfortunately, even though it was very affordable, it was still a waste of money.
The Crystal Glow Primedation Foundation contains 1.01 fluid ounces of product. It’s packaged in a plastic bottle with a pump. It claims to be a three in one foundation: containing primer, skincare and a radiant medium coverage finish. It’s available in 24 shades and I have PFN030; fair with neutral undertones. Let’s talk pros and cons!
My skin type is combination with large pores and acne scars.
Pros:
- The shade I chose, PFN030, is a great match for my skin tone. I think it pulls slightly warm, instead of being a true neutral.
- This foundation does have a pretty solid medium coverage. I could still see blemishes but it did help to even out my skin.
- It contains hyaluronic acid and collagen.
- It was easy to blend over primers and bare skin. It didn’t pill up or do anything like that.
- The finish is definitely radiant but natural looking.
Cons:
- This foundation sinks into pores and creases, even with primer underneath it. Nothing I did would stop it from creasing within 30 minutes.
- This formula also CLINGS to texture. I thought with it being such a hydrating formula, that it would smooth over problem areas, but that was not the case.
- It transfers terribly no matter what I use to set it.
- The shade range is okay but not even remotely deep enough.
The first two pictures are of my skin with nothing on it and the second two are with one layer of the foundation. You can still see some blemishes and darkness peeking through but for the most part, it looks pretty good.
These three pictures are of my finished makeup on different days. I am wearing various concealers because this foundation didn’t have the coverage level that I wanted but I actually really liked how my makeup looked all of these days. My issue with this foundation is how it wears, not how it looks when applied.
This is how my makeup consistently looked at the end of the day, with or without primer. It overall looks okay but the horrible creasing really bothers me. If it didn’t do that, it would be a decent foundation. It may only be $16.00 but I say skip this one.
Final Thoughts:
Even though I’m not super impressed with my first purchase from Joah, I’d still like to try more from the brand in the future. If you’ve tried anything from them, let me know what’s worth buying. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
