Shea Moisture is not a brand I buy from often but I wanted to try out a few things from them. I ordered four different products in two separate orders. I was not able to get a picture of them together because I was allergic to something and got rid of it before I bought some of the other things. It’s an even split for me of hits and misses, two I love and two I do not. Let’s start with the first products I purchased.
In my first order, I bought the Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Shea Butter Soap with Fig Extract & Baobab Oil and Raw Shea Butter Hydrating Body Lotion with Frankincense & Myrrh. The soap is $6.00 for 8 ounces of product. It claims to help soothe, soften and promote healthy skin. I initially loved this. It smells AMAZING, a very clean and mild scent. It left my skin feeling great… until I started breaking out in huge blotches. I’m unfortunately allergic to something in this and I’m not sure what. It’s a good soap but use with caution if you have sensitive skin.
The lotion is $11.00 for 13 ounces. It claims to deeply moisturize, repair and rejuvenate dry and dull looking skin. I really like this lotion. It smells like frankincense and myrrh but the scent is not too strong. If you don’t know how that smells, it’s a very earthy, incense type scent. It’s not feminine or masculine but gender neutral. My husband is picky about scents and he loves the way this smells so that’s a huge pro for it. It moisturizes very well without feeling sticky. It can feel slightly heavy on the skin so I don’t recommend applying it right before bed. This is definitely a lotion I plan to repurchase and I would also like to try the soap. Now for order two!
Next I decided to try the Fruit Fusion Shea Butter Lip Balm and the Purple Rice Water Velvet Skin Body Lotion with Wild Orchid & Sweet Violet Extract. The lip balm is $4.00 for half an ounce. I hate this lip balm so much. Before I bought it, I read a few reviews from people that said it tasted like old Halloween candy and it would make their throat hurt. I just brushed those reviews off and bought it anyways but they were RIGHT. This does smell and taste like old Halloween candy. It also irritates my throat and makes me cough. To top it off, it has a gritty texture and actually dries my lips out. This lip balm does everything that I wouldn’t want a lip balm to do. It’s absolutely horrible, buy Carmex instead.
The lotion is $11.00 for 13 ounces. This is a new release that I picked up randomly and I’m glad that I did. It claims to be good for dry and sensitive skin. It has a very mild and sweet, floral scent. The texture is basically the same as the other lotion, moisturizing but can feel heavy on the skin. However, this lotion does have an odd gritty texture. I’m not sure if it’s particles of rice or what but it does make rubbing this in more time consuming and annoying. I’m willing to deal with that, though, because it smells amazing and it moisturizes well.
That is everything for this mini Shea Moisture haul! Do you love anything from the brand? What should I try next? Thanks for reading and have a great day!
