e.l.f. Reviews: Hydrating Camo Concealer, Luminous Putty Primer & Lippies

If there’s any brand I love buying from, it’s e.l.f. Not only do they make quality products but they keep them affordable and vegan. Lately, they’ve been releasing a good bit of new stuff so I picked up a few things that interested me. Let’s talk about the new Hydrating Camo Concealer first!

Hydrating Camo Concealer

The Hydrating Camo Concealer is $6.00 and contains 0.20 ounces of product. It’s available in 25 shades and claims to have a satin finish. I initially bought the shade Light Sand because that is what I wear in the original 16hr Camo Concealer. As you can see in the pictures above, they are NOT the same shade. The Hydrating Camo Concealer is much darker and more yellow than my original concealer. I returned it and bought the shade Fair Beige. This still isn’t a perfect match for me but it works well enough. It claims to be for fair skin tones with a neutral undertone but I think the undertone is more peachy than neutral.

I absolutely love almost everything about the original 16hr Camo Concealer. It doesn’t crease, it looks great all day but it does dry down extremely fast. The Hydrating Camo Concealer is almost as good. It doesn’t have the super fast dry down time but it also doesn’t provide as much coverage and it does crease, even when set with powder.

This concealer isn’t bad but I won’t buy it again. If you’re one of the people that the original didn’t work for, this might be a good option for you.

Luminous Putty Primer

The Luminous Putty Primer is $8.00 for 0.74 ounces. Guys, I knew better than to buy this primer and I did it anyways. I tried the original Putty Primer and did not like it so I’m not sure why I thought this one would be different. Literally the only difference in the Luminous and the original is this one has gold glitter in it. Once foundation is applied, there is nothing luminous about it.

Just as I said in my review for the original, this wasn’t bad but it did nothing for me. It didn’t extend the wear of my foundation or change the finish of it. It did help to create a smooth canvas for the foundation but any primer or even moisturizer can do that. I don’t think I’ll be trying anymore versions of the Putty Primer.

Lip Plumping Glosses & Sheer Matte Liquid Lipstick

I’ve always been nervous about trying a plumping gloss because I didn’t want it to burn my lips. However, I decided to pick up two and see how I liked them. They are $6.00 apiece and have a doe foot applicator. I bought the shades Praline and Sparkling Rose. Praline is a brown with reddish undertones and Sparkling Rose is a light pink. They are swatched in the picture above, going from top to bottom. I ended up loving these glosses. They’re a thick, opaque formula but not too sticky. They do slightly tingle, like all plumping glosses, but it’s not painful and does go away. As far as actually plumping my lips, I didn’t really notice a difference. I love this formula as a regular gloss and recommend it.

I picked up another Sheer Matte Lipstick in the shade Warm Verbena; a terracotta shade, swatched above. I also own the shade Pink Peony and it’s beautiful. These lipsticks are $6.00 and have a triangle shaped applicator. The formula is more on the sheer side, as the name implies, but two layers gave me full opacity. Of course, with one layer you would have a pretty, blotted look. The formula is matte but it’s very comfortable. It is mostly transfer resistant and holds up well if just drinking but it doesn’t last through eating. However, unlike most matte lipsticks, it’s easy to reapply without looking cakey. I love this formula and recommend it.

Sparkling Rose is pictured on the left and Warm Verbena topped with Praline is pictured on the right.

Final Thoughts:

I hope these mini reviews helped you if you were curious about these newer releases. Have you tried any of these products or do you want to? Let me know! Thanks for reading and have a great day!

  1. Ah no! So bummed that the luminous putty primer didn’t work for you. Also, glitter? Yeagh. I hate glitter particles in primers.

These lippy shades are SO pretty and I have such FOMO for the concealer 😂😂 I need to haul some ELF goodies soon
