I really like when someone gets me to read a book that I typically wouldn’t have picked up. My brother, who has read more than I’ll probably ever be able to, suggested I read the book Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I had heard about it because it was, and still is, a very popular book (it’s also been adapted into a movie) but it just didn’t strike me as something I would like. It’s a suspense/thriller fiction novel which I usually don’t care for but here lately I’ve been reading some good ones. This is one of the good ones. Well I should say it was really good until the very end.

The novel is based around married couple Nick and Amy Dunne. They’ve fallen on hard times due to job losses and family issues. It’s really put a strain on their marriage and one of them ends up cheating on the other. From here it gets pretty crazy. I don’t give spoilers but what I loved about this book is it does a complete 180 degree flip right in the middle of the story. You realize that nothing is what you thought it was through the first half of the book. I think this is one of the few books that has kept me in suspense and completely shocked me. So all that was great, however, I HATED the ending. To put it simply it’s very open ended when I feel like this story should have had closure. I felt like the book was leading toward a specific end and then it just didn’t. The only way I would like the ending is if there was a sequel planned and there’s not, that I’m aware of.

Overall, I think it was a good book. Not great, but good. Like I said if the ending would have been different it probably would have been one of my favorite books. I definitely think it’s worth reading, though. It’s very entertaining and extremely suspenseful. I hope you enjoyed this. Thanks for reading and have a great day!
