My favorite book genres are fantasy, historical fiction and horror but I’ve been trying to branch out. I had never really read any thriller type stories until Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and I loved that. My brother Cody, who has a blog called Cody’s Bookshelf, recommended I read Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris. It is a fiction thriller story that I read too fast because it was just that good.

The Synopsis
Grace Angel has it all, or so it seems. She’s married to a handsome lawyer, Jack. They’re very wealthy which enables them to take lavish vacations and have a huge home. They have a nice circle of friends that they socialize with regularly. However, there is cracks in this veneer of a perfect life. Grace doesn’t have a cell phone or her own email address. She never leaves the house without Jack and frequently has to cancel plans with her friends. She claims that she and her husband never argue and that he’s just perfect; but sometimes perfection is fake and the real story only happens behind closed doors...

My Thoughts
This book was fantastic. As much as I enjoyed Gone Girl this one was even better and more intense. Grace and Jack were only married for one day when she learns that he is psychopath who doesn’t care about her at all. He only married her because he knows that she has a younger sister, Millie, who has Down’s Syndrome. Eventually Millie will be coming to live with them and he has planned to entrap Millie in the house (along with Grace) to torture her. Jack is pure evil and honestly one of my most hated characters of all time. This is the first book I’ve ever read that gave a person with Down’s Syndrome such an important role in the story and I loved that. I won’t spoil exactly how it ends but Millie is crucial to saving Grace, and herself, from Jack. Grace is also a brilliant character who is extremely smart and brave. She loves her sister and does whatever it takes to save them both.
If you liked Gone Girl or just like thriller stories, you need to check this one out. It’s a very quick read and perfect for summer. Let me know if this sounds interesting to you and what thrillers you love! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
