During the last Ulta 21 Days of Beauty Sale one of the higher end brands that had something from their line half off was Dose of Colors. Dose of Colors is a cruelty free brand that I’ve been curious about for awhile. I watch a lot of the beauty side of Youtube and I’ve seen many people just RAVE about the formula of their Matte Liquid Lipsticks. These lipsticks are usually $18.00 but during the sale they were only $9.00. I wanted to see if they would be worth the $18.00 splurge because in my opinion, that’s pricey for a lipstick.
I purchased the shade Mondaze which is described on the website as a smokey marsala, basically a red-brown shade. I think this color is absolutely beautiful. It’s a perfect year round shade for me but I know I’ll especially get a lot of use out of it during the fall. As for the formula, I typically hate matte lipsticks. I have dry lips as it is and I usually don’t want my lipstick to make that worse. Surprisingly, this is the best matte formula I’ve tried so far. It goes on very smoothly but it does dry down fairly fast so you might want to clean up around your lips pretty quickly. For the first four to five hours I could definitely feel the lipstick on my lips, it does have that slightly dry matte feel, but it was still what I would consider comfortable. After those first four to five hours it did begin to feel very dry, however, it did still look beautiful. This fades very naturally and I had little transfer when eating or drinking. As with most matte lipsticks, this one will get cakey with multiple layers so it’s best to reapply by removing the first layer and starting over. The only major con to this lipstick, in my opinion, is the next day my lips felt drier than usual and my lip lines were more noticeable so this formula did somewhat dry out my lips. I probably wouldn’t wear this formula everyday but overall I do recommend it. I will definitely be using it when I need my lipstick to look good for a long period of time.
I’m not sure I would buy one of these lipsticks at the full $18.00 but I might if I liked the shade enough. This is a very good matte formula. It’s comfortable for a long time, has very little transfer and fades beautifully. Overall, it’s up to you if you think that price tag is worth it but if you do decide to splurge on it, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Have you tried the Dose of Colors Matte Liquid Lipsticks before? What’s your favorite lipstick formula? Thanks for reading and have a great day!
