Possible Alternative for the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter? The Makeup Revolution Ultra Glow Primer & Lustre Highlighter Reviews

I have been on a Makeup Revolution kick for the past few months. They’re quickly becoming one of my favorite brands and I haven’t tried anything, so far, that I haven’t at least enjoyed to some extent. I was wanting some glow in my life so I decided to pick up the Fix & Glow Ultra Glow Primer and Lustre Highlighter in White Rose. Let’s talk about the primer first.

The Fix & Glow Ultra Glow Primer is $12.00 and you get 0.84 fluid ounces of product. It’s packaged in a glass bottle with a pump and claims to prep the skin for long lasting, glowy makeup.

I like this primer but I don’t love it. It’s a cool toned pink color that I feel is very brightening, but it does contain glitter and that’s what is providing the glow. It didn’t help my makeup last any longer than usual, but I’ve never found a glowy primer that did. My makeup did apply smoothly on top of it but once I applied the makeup, you could no longer see any glow from the primer.

I’ve also been trying out the e.l.f. Halo Glow Liquid Filter and while I don’t love this primer, I like it more than the e.l.f. one. The e.l.f. Halo Glow is SO dark on my skin, even though I have the lightest shade. I also feel that it makes my makeup look greasier and wear away faster whereas the Makeup Revolution Ultra Glow Primer does not. The only aspect of the e.l.f. Halo Glow that I prefer is that it doesn’t contain glitter. You can see both primers compared to each other in the picture above.

I don’t think glowy primers in general are for me but if I had to pick between the Makeup Revolution and e.l.f. options, I would choose the Makeup Revolution. I do think this primer could potentially work well as a liquid highlighter and I plan to try it like that soon. If you’ve been looking for a glowy primer and you have light or cool toned skin, I recommend trying this one.

The Lustre Highlighter is part of the Revolution Pro line and is usually $15.00 but has been on sale for $4.50 for quite some time. That does make me wonder if it’s going to be discontinued. It’s packaged in a gorgeous, glittery gold compact. The compact is sturdy plastic and has a clasp closure with a mirror. I bought the shade White Rose, a white with pink undertones.

This highlighter is beautiful to look at and beautiful on the skin but it can be tricky to work with. It has a very creamy formula that doesn’t apply well with a brush. I found that if I used a brush, I couldn’t build up glow and glitter would go everywhere. I had to apply this highlighter with my finger, as I would a cream. This highlighter also doesn’t give the most blinding glow but I actually prefer a more subtle look at times. You can see it best in my inner corner in the picture above. If you’re willing to work with it, it’s worth buying, especially at its current discounted price.

Final Thoughts:

While I wouldn’t say either of these products are absolute favorites, both are good. I have a few more things to review from this brand and then I’ll finally be caught up from the shopping spree I went on with them😅 Do you have any favorites from Makeup Revolution? I’d love to know! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
