Book Review of “Tales From Watership Down” by Richard Adams

One of my all time favorite books is “Watership Down” by Richard Adams. I’m ashamed to admit that until this last week I had never read the adjoining book, Tales From Watership Down. I say adjoining book because it’s not really a sequel, even though it was written many years after the first. This story takes place within the first book and just adds depth to the original story. The book is broken into nineteen different short stories. A large portion of these stories are further explanations of the unique folklore and mythology that these rabbits have.

I loved Tales From Watership Down as much as the first. This book just makes you love the characters even more. It is more of a lighter read than the first book. It doesn’t focus on as heavy of themes, but there is still death and such. It is also a much shorter read than the first novel, which is a HUGE book. If you are planning to read this I would read Watership Down  first. It’s not that this book wouldn’t make sense without reading the first book, but you will enjoy it more if you do.

If you enjoy fantasy, like the  Lord of the Rings or The Chronicles of Narnia, I believe you would love both of these books. These stories are about so much more than just talking rabbits. Go read them, you won’t regret it. Thank you for reading and have a great day!
