Simple Mardi Gras Makeup!

It is Mardi Gras season! For those that may not know Mardi Gras originated in France and other parts of Europe. When French-Canadian explorer  Jean Baptiste Le Moyne Sieur de Bienville (that’s a mouth full) first ventured to Mobile, Alabama in 1699 he brought with him the tradition of the Mardi Gras celebration. The first real celebration took place in 1703. New Orleans, Louisiana was established in 17 18 by Bienville and by the 1730s Mardi Gras was celebrated there. Mardi Gras today is very different from how it was originally celebrated. It began with elegant society balls, which was the precursor to the Mardi Gras balls today. Today the main Mardi Gras celebrations are in New Orleans but Mobile still does their thing too. It’s all basically a giant party with parades and just a lot of fun. You’re welcome for that history lesson haha. Now onto the makeup!

Let me first say, like I have said many times, I am not a “beauty guru” or a makeup artist. To be honest, I’m not even that good at makeup. I do what I like and if I think it looks okay I wear it. So I’m aware that my eyeshadow is probably not blended right and all the other things probably aren’t perfect either haha. Now, for my eyes, I used my BH Cosmetics Supernova Eyeshadow Palette,  Wet N Wild Petal Pusher Eyeshadow Palette, Wet n Wild Megalast Eyeliner and e.l.f. Mineral Mascara. On my lips I’m wearing BH Cosmetics Pop Art Lipstick in the color Bam. If you’re curious, my highlight is the e.l.f. Baked Highlighter and Blush Combo and my blush is the Milani Rose Powder Blush.

From the BH Cosmetics Supernova Palette; on my eyelids I am wearing Pisces, the beautiful green color on the top row, second from the right, and above my crease to my browbone I am wearing Phoenix, the lightest gold on the end of the top row to the left. From the Wet n Wild Petal Pusher Palette; in my crease I am wearing the dark purple on the left side,  third down, and on my lower lash line I used the bottom color on the right. Under all of this I used the e.l.f. Cosmetics eyelid primer.

All I have on my lips is this awesome purple lipstick from BH Cosmetics.

Mardi Gras takes place over a few weeks but the main day of celebration is Fat Tuesday, which is tomorrow. I got to be in New Orleans for the start of Mardi Gras on my honeymoon three years ago and it was a blast. I fell in love with the city. I’m from north Alabama so it’s not really a far trip for me and I hope to go back soon. This was such a fun makeup look to do! I hope you enjoyed it and let me know if you’ve ever been to a Mardi Gras celebration! Thank you for reading and have a great day!
