Book Review for “A Court of Frost and Starlight” by Sarah J. Maas

A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J. Maas is the fourth and last (for now) book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. Like with the first three books, I have some very mixed thoughts about this one. I’ll get into my full thoughts below after the synopsis. This review will have spoilers.

Synopsis

Hope warms the coldest night.

Feyre, Rhys, and their close-knit circle of friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve.

Yet even the festive atmosphere can’t keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated–scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.

My Thoughts

This book was… not what I expected it to be. For one thing, this is basically a novella and is about a quarter of the size of the first three books. In my honest opinion, this book was pointless. It didn’t add anything of value to the overall story except Rhysand and Feyre decide to start trying for a baby. The entire story revolves around the Winter Solstice, basically Christmas, and it was like when TV shows have a Christmas episode; they’re fun and all but they add nothing to the main story. To be brutally honest… this read like a fanfiction. I’m not saying the story wasn’t enjoyable, it was, but it would have been better as the first part of a larger book and not a book of its own. It’s a sweet, romantic story that gives fuzzy Christmas vibes so I do recommend reading it just don’t expect anything much from it.

Also, I mentioned in my ACOWAR review that if I had to read the word “mate” one more time I was going to throw myself off a cliff… I guess I need to find a cliff.

I’m not sure when the next book in the series is coming out but I’ll be getting it as soon as it does. If you’ve read this series I’d love to know your thoughts. Was the last book disappointing to you as well? Let me know! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
