Collecting makeup is all fun and games until you run out of storage and are forced to deal with the consequences of your actions. This is the unfortunate predicament that I currently find myself in. Back in September, I announced that I was going on a low buy. Everything I wrote in that post was well thought out and my reasoning for buying less made perfect sense… and I still didn’t stick to it because I’m a clown.
Thankfully, it’s a new year and time for a new me! Also, as I said above, I’m out of storage space, lol. I decided to take a complete inventory of all my makeup because I honestly wasn’t sure how much I had. Let’s talk numbers!
Makeup Inventory:
- Face Primers- 7
- Eyeshadow Primers- 2
- Foundations- 5
- Concealers- 4
- Color Correctors/Mixing Mediums- 7
- Powders- 5
- Blushes- 32
- Highlighters- 43
- Eyeshadow Palettes- 44
- Eyeshadow Singles, Duos & Trios- 91
- Bronzers & Contours- 11
- Mascara & Eyeliners- 6
- Brow Products- 5
- Setting/Finishing Sprays- 3
- All Lip Products- 120
I was honestly surprised that I have so many blushes, highlighters and eyeshadow palettes. Most of my highlighters are in palettes so I really wasn’t aware of how many I had accumulated and I just didn’t feel that I had that many blushes or palettes. I don’t mind having a larger collection because makeup is my hobby and I like to do a wide variety of looks. I’m not doing the same neutral look everyday but hoarding rainbow palettes, ya know? As long as my makeup can be neatly stored, I’m happy. Unfortunately, I have no more space for lip products, eyeshadow palettes, highlighters or blushes. I can’t purchase anything else in those categories until I either declutter or use up some of what I already have. I do still have space for all the other categories but I’m going to try to be a normal human and only buy those products in moderation. Since I won’t be buying anything new in the categories I mentioned, I can truly focus on what I already have. That leads me to my first ever project pan!
Project Pan:
I need to use all of my palettes more but there are three that I want to really focus on: Juvia’s Place The Nubian, Juvia’s Place The Nubian 2 and BH Cosmetics Royal Affair. The Nubian and The Nubian 2 are some of the oldest palettes in my collection. I love everything about them from their formula to their color stories but they just keep getting overlooked as I bring in new palettes. I want to give these two the love they deserve and use them both to create as many looks as possible.
As for the BH Cosmetics Royal Affair, this is just another criminally underused palette in my collection. It also has a great formula and beautiful color story. It was limited edition and is no longer available so I really would like to get it used up. I think it will pair nicely with the other two palettes and I would like to use all three together.
As for cheek and lip products, I chose ones that I’ve either had for a long time or have already used a significant amount of. The products I chose are pictured above, from left to right: Milani Highlighter in Moon Glow, e.l.f. Coco Glow Highlighter in Moonlight, e.l.f. Primer Infused Blush in Always Cheeky, essence blush in Satin Love and Besame lipstick in Dusty Rose. All of these products are still available except for the e.l.f. Coco Glow Highlighter and it has been discontinued, even more reason why I want to use it up. Lately my go to look has been what you see in the pictures on the right. I’ve been going foundation free, using one of the highlighters on my cheeks and eyes and using the Besame lipstick as a cream blush and on my lips. This look allows me to use these products even when I don’t want to do a full look. Hopefully by still using these products on my makeup “free” days, I can get through them faster and get more use out of them.
My project pan rules are very simple; I want to use all of the products I’ve chosen as much as possible over the next year and either use them up or hit pan. I’m not sure if I should do monthly check ins or make it every few months so let me know what you guys would prefer to see! I do plan to create pictorials and other content using these products on a regular basis.
Final Thoughts:
I’m excited for this new challenge and to REALLY love what I already own. I hope that you guys enjoy seeing a few less reviews but more creative content. I would love to know your thoughts on my no/low buy and project pan. I would also like to know if you’re doing anything similar in 2020! Thanks for reading and have a great day!
I’ve just done the same with my makeup over the Christmas break – making an inventory of everything I have – and it is really quite overwhelming!! Good luck on your panning journey!

It is overwhelming because it’s so easy to not realize just how much you have! Thank you!

My collection is very complete. I do want to try out some different complexion products but I’m not even interested in buying any powder products right now.

Ugh girl, I feel you. I decluttered my collection to my daughter last year and I still have too many products. I realized that I love to experiement with lippies, but when it comes to other makeup, Im a tried and true girl. I don’t need a huge colection. I would be happy with one bronzer, like 2 or 4 blushes, a couple od highlighters, one primer, one setting powder, one foundation, one or two eye shadow palettes. Like Im a makeup minimalist, besides for lip colors. My goal for 2020 is to go through 20 full sizes and use up 500 worth of product. I love makeup but I dont need the big amount that I have. Im working on my oldest products first and will purchase new stuff if I run out.

That’s the point I’m at. I love trying new formulas but at this point, I know what I like and I need to keep using it.
