Too Faced The Sweet Smell of Christmas Melted Matte Lipstick Set Review- Is it Worth the Splurge?

Too Faced is not a brand I’ve tried much from. In fact, this holiday set is the first purchase I’ve made from them that didn’t come from TJ Maxx. They’re just a brand that I usually think is really overpriced and nothing they offer makes me want to pay those prices. However, they released the Sweet Smell of Christmas Melted Matte Lipstick Set for $25.00 and I was sucked in. This set includes four lipsticks that each contain 3.0 ml/0.1 fluid ounces of product. Their full size lipsticks contain 7ml/0.23 fluid ounces of product. I loved the shades included, the fact that they’re scented and the price. So, was it worth the splurge?

I like these lipsticks but I don’t love them. I do enjoy the shade selection and the scents for the most part. Pumpkin Spice is a terracotta/deep orange color. It does have a nice, but very artificial, spicy smell to it but I don’t automatically think pumpkin. Sugar Cookie is a very pretty nude. It’s just a perfect mix of pink and brown and isn’t too light on my lips. It does smell sweet like a cookie. Cinnamon Bear is my least favorite of the set. It’s a nice red but it has an artificial cinnamon scent that I hate. Hot Buttered Rum is a mid-tone orange/brown shade. It has a buttery vanilla scent. None of the scents linger once applied on the lips and the lipsticks do not have a taste.

As for the formula, they’re not the worst but they sure aren’t the best. They are matte liquid lipsticks and do feel dry on the lips like most mattes do. They aren’t the most uncomfortable, that award goes to Colourpop’s matte liquid lipsticks, but they are still drying. I would be fine with this if they were long lasting but they’re not. These do not hold up to eating and drinking. Cinnamon Bear looked the worst while the rest weren’t quite as bad because they’re closer to my natural lip color. The Dose of Colors matte liquid lipsticks actually stain the lips so that when the lipstick fades it looks more natural, these don’t do that.

Cinnamon Bear after eating. It looks absolutely disgusting.

For the most part I do like these lipsticks and think this is a fun holiday set. Would I ever pay full price at $21.00 for one lipstick in this formula? Never in a million years. Dose of Colors is cheaper at $18.00 apiece, and in my opinion, better quality. I would even choose some of my e.l.f. matte lipsticks over these as far as formula goes. Let me know what you think! have you tried this set or is there anything else from Too Faced worth splurging on? Thanks for reading and have a great day!

  1. I actually loved this set! I didn’t find them drying at all except for pumpkin spice which seemed to have a slightly different formula. It didn’t dry down all the way on me. I wish too faced sold minis like this instead of their giant melted lipsticks, I bought the gingerbread girl lipstick and realized that I would never finish it!
